If your children love the Disney Channel as much as mine do, chances are you’ve already heard something from the album “Here Come the 123s” by They Might Be Giants (TMBG). I discovered this CD/DVD combo at my local public library. Both of my kids love it so much. I have already renewed it the maximum number of times, so I guess I will have to break down and purchase my own copy.
I actually enjoy listening to all of the songs myself! I have very fond memories of listening to TMBG’s “Flood” album over and over again on a cassette tape, trying to memorize the quirky lyrics. When my four year old son Sam tries to sing along with “Seven Days of the Week (I Never Go to Work),” I just have to laugh. At least he’s finally interested in learning the days of the week! Of course, this means two year old Sophie will learn them too!
The album comes with both a CD and a DVD of all the songs and music videos. There are cute little introductions to the videos by puppets named John and Jon (the members of TMBG). Some of the videos are animated while others are Sesame Street style with hand puppets. Very entertaining and cute. Not sickeningly sweet cute, though.
The 24 songs and 23 music videos are arranged in numerical order, starting with “Zeroes,” “One Everything,” etc., to “Eight Hundred and Thirteen Mile Car Trip” and others. My kids’ favorite songs right now are “Triops Has Three Eyes,” “One Dozen Monkeys,” and of course “Seven Days of the Week (I Never Go to Work).”
This was produced by Disney Sound, as was our other favorite CD/DVD combo “Welcome to Ralph’s World” by Ralph Covert. They Might Be Giants have other children’s CDs available called “No!,” “Bed, Bed, Bed,” and “Here Come the ABC’s.” I’m looking forward to listening to these albums with my children.
In the meantime, there’s a Free weekly kids video podcast! and lots of videos on YouTube. Here’s Sammy’s favorite song found on YouTube:

Those are great songs, aren’t they? I like the one for #5. And the puppets are hilarious…”Hi, I’m John! ” “And I’m John, too!”

JV, Sammy and Sophie love the puppets too. So silly!
I need to track down the “Here Come the ABC’s” album next. I saw lots of the songs and videos on YouTube and think the kids will really enjoy it as well.
