Decadent Oreo Truffles Recipe

Oreo TrufflesA couple of months ago, I attended a Girl’s Night Out with several playgroup moms (without the kids). One of the women brought “Oreo Balls,” also known as “Oreo Truffles.” Everyone loved them, myself included. They are so rich and decadent! I decided to make them for my friends and family. It was surprisingly easy, especially if you have a food processor.

OREO Truffles
Makes approx. 50 one-inch truffles or 100 half-inch mini-truffles

Ingredients:
18 oz. package of OREO Chocolate Sandwich Cookies
8 oz. package of Cream Cheese, softened *
16 oz. Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate or Chocolate Chips, melted **

Directions:

  1. Crush the cookies into fine crumbs in a food processor or zip top bag.
  2. Add softened cream cheese; mix until well blended. As my playgroup friend says, “until you have mud.”
  3. Roll cookie mixture into balls, about 1-inch in diameter for full size truffles or 1/2 inch diameter for mini-truffles. I used a cookie disher for uniform sized balls.
  4. Refrigerate until firm, about 30 minutes.
  5. Melt the chocolate over a double boiler or in the microwave. Stir until smooth.
  6. Roll the balls in chocolate to coat completely; use two toothpicks or forks to remove the balls from the chocolate, allowing the extra chocolate to drip off.
  7. Place on a wax paper-lined baking sheet.
  8. Refrigerate another 30 minutes until the chocolate forms a hard shell.
  9. Store leftover truffles (if any) in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

* I doubled the recipe and used one package each of regular cream cheese and low fat cream cheese. It turned out great!

** I ran out of semi-sweet chocolate and coated the last batch of truffles in dark chocolate. Mmmm!

My son Sammy loved helping me clean up afterwards!

Can you use oreo double-stuft for this recipe? Got double-stuft by mistake.

Thanks

Jalona, I’ve only used the regular Oreos before, but I’d imagine the double stuft ones would work just fine. Maybe try using a little bit less cream cheese to get the desired consistency. Let me know how it turns out!

This recipe is AMAZiNG! Try dipping the truffles in white chocolate then drizzling dark chocolate over the tops…it’s a fun variation. We also use regular decorator’s frosting (colored with food coloring) in a bag to make hearts on some for Valentines day.

We have been making these for years and they are ALWAYS a hit! Experiment with variations in cookie and also with the chips for the coating. Chocolate mint is awesome and we’ve even used raspberry baking chips though they aren’t as easily found. Butterscotch is usually readily available as well. These are easily adapted to suit your taste. Try Ritz crackers and Peanut Butter chips for a twist.

Thanks feliz! Eating a few of these every once in a while shouldn’t be too bad for your diet! I hide them in the back of my fridge so they don’t all get devoured the day I make them.
