Our Day Out With Thomas 2007

August 24th, 2007 by Elaine · No Comments

2007-08-18-015Every morning for the past two weeks, Sammy asked me, “Are we going to see the HUGE Thomas today?” He was so excited when I finally answered yes last Saturday. For the second year in a row, we took the kids to Day Out With Thomas at the Illinois Railway Museum.

We followed our own tips from last year’s Day out with Thomas article. We pre-ordered our tickets online, packed our picnic lunch, and put on our rain gear, and caravaned to Union, IL.

The parking lot opened at 7:30 am, the museum gate opened at 9:00 am. Next year, we plan to come before 10:00 am to get parking close to the entrance. By 11:00 am on a rainy Saturday, the main parking lot was full. People were directed to park in several outlying lots, then the overflow cars were forced to park along the side streets. I did see a shuttle bus, but I have no idea how often it ran.

Thomas & Friends Shipping Reimbursement Received

August 21st, 2007 by Elaine · 5 Comments

RC2RefundCheckRWe recently received our shipping reimbursement check from RC2, the makers of the recalled Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway toys. On June 20, 2007, we paid $5.25 to ship four trains via USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation. Last week we received a $4.60 check along with a short letter.

I was disappointed that we were not refunded the full amount, but after reading some of the comments on our other Thomas & Friends recall articles, it seems like we were lucky. Many people are very upset about the way RC2 is handling the reimbursement process. Our reader Jill received a check for $1.81, even though it cost her $3.03 to ship 4 items. Carolyn received $5.30 after paying $8.23 to return 9 recalled items while Jeff was reimbursed only $1.81 for about $5 shipping fees for 3 items.
