Twenty-six items from the Thomas & Friends™ Wooden Railway series are being voluntarily recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the manufacturer, RC2.
“RC2 has determined that the surface paints on the recalled products contain lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.”
Most of the recalled vehicles and wooden train set components are colored red, but some are yellow or brown.
See also the recall poster for more photos and descriptions of the recalled items.
I believe our son Sammy has four of the recalled items on his train table right now. Because I also have a toddler in the house, I will return them right away for a replacement and a free gift. I’ll need to mail them, along with the Replacement Request Form to:
RC2 Corporation
Attn: Wooden Vehicle Recall
2021 9th Street SE
Dyersville, IA
52040-2316
Sammy will have to be without his beloved red engines and fire trucks for six to eight weeks. Hopefully they will make it worth his while with the “free gift.” I wonder if it will be one gift per shipment, or per recalled item. I guess we’ll find out in a few months.

Both Sammy and I will be disappointed that the red engines will be out of commission while they are being repainted at the island of Sodor engine repair facility.
I expect that there will be a new book about the infamous red engine recall.
The four red Thomas toys are ready to be sent out for their “new coat of paint.” We’ll see them again in about 2 months. Sammy and Uncle Neal will be the first ones to play with them when they come back!
